The European Commission has appointed Wolfgang Burtscher(IEHEI-Nice 1982-1983) as Deputy Director General for Research (DG RTD). In his new position, the IEHEI graduate will assist the Director General of DG Research in running a Directorate General employing 2000 staff. He is also tasked with managing the Seventh Framework Programme for Research, which has a budget of more than 53bn euros over seven years.
Mr Burtscher leaves his post as Director of Audit of Agricultural Expenditure in DG AGRI. He was Director of Agricultural Legislation in the same DG from 2000 to 2005. In addition to his diploma from IEHEI, Wolfgang Burtscher also holds a doctorate in law.
