Ernst Piehl (CUEF-Aoste alumnus 1968) was the organisational core of a biking tour around Europe which was launched earlier this week in Brussels and whose aim is to motivate Europeans to take part in the elections for European Parliament.
Piehl who is also a former EU official and a member of the German Social-Democrat party is the coordinator of the bike tour which is supposed to "bring together the four pro-European political parties at the EP (EPP, PSE, ALDE and the Greens) on a local level in four countries". The tour has left from Brussels on 27th of April in the presence of Commissioner Jan Figel, the Secretary Geberal of the Committee of Regions Gerhard Stahl and the former president of the European parliament Pat Cox. The cyclists will cover 1800km in 21 days and will pass through Belgium, Holland, Germany and Poland. In the 25 cities where the biking tour will stop, participants will be received by the mayors and the local candidates for the European elections.
